In service of the Kabal, Talos from the Prophet of Flesh coven.

Ave Dominus Nox!

The Winter Eternal Kabal relies heavily on different cult and mercenary from the Dark City to come with them in real space. But they also rely on the different coven to provide them with some monster and shock infantry. The monster in question, some fearsome Talos, came from the Prophet of Flesh Coven. They are not cheap, but to obtain the best, you have to pay the price!
These Monster in service of the Kabal distinguished themselves by their size even if they adopt the white armor of the Kabal.
I build both of them with the same weapons, chain-flail and macro scalpel as well as with the twin haywire blasters.
I painted them using the same methods as the other vehicules of the army, white, grey and no contrast. I work the skin in different tone of violet and I need to continue working on that

Painting Challenge: end of third week, Blood Pact done, let's move on more Night Lords!

Ave Dominus Nox,

That is the end of the third week of containment. After I started working on the last guards for the Blood Pact regiment, I found that by doing a bit of kit bashing and bitz using, I can do an extra squad of special weapon (flamers). As a result, I finished the complete stock of minis for the blood pact with 16 guards rather than 10.

I also worked on my first talos, the result is clean, but I think that I can improve the skin, I am not a big fan of the violet, any idea to improve it?

If you take the update list:

Drukhari:
- a 6-man squad of Reavers
- 16 Kabalites
- 2 Talos 1 Talos
- 1 Archon (new)
- 5 Incubi  (new)

Blood Pact:
- 10 guards
- 6 special weapons

Orks:
- 30 Stromboyz

Night Lords:
- 1 Raptor Gunship
- 1 Leviathan full closed combat - WIP
- 10 man-squad with meltagun
- 10 Night Lord Raptors
- One Praetor with Jump-pack - WIP

So this week: focus on the Night Lords before moving again for some Drukhari?

Drukhari: Reavers in service of the Winter Eternal Kabal

Ave Dominus Nox!

The Winter Eternal Kabal relies heavily on different cult and mercenary from the Dark City to come with them in real space. Most of these recruits come from the Dark Blood Cult, a cult specialized in the hunt of tank and monster. Archon and Dracons from the Kabal love to recruit reavers squad from this Cult. These fast moving and strike hard jetbike can change the course of a battle or the success of a raid.

The different squad in service of the Kabal distinguished themselves by the color marking on the bike (blue, green, red…).
I build this first squad, as well as the second one, with a mix of blaster and grav-talon. It provides some flexibility to use the squad on a table: blaster for the shooting power and the grav-talon for the bonus during a charge with the mortal wound potential.
As it was one of the first unit to paint in this new army, I tested some color mix: grey, white, contrast… In the end, I decided on using ulthuan Grey and agrax earthshade as the main color for the bike. The pilots are paint with the same method as the kabalite: grey, nuln oil and contrast black for fast painting and a correct result.
I put some blue line on the bike to help me distinguished the different squad. The next one will have either red or green mark depending of my mood.

Drukhari: Another pack of mercenaries, the scourges

Ave Dominus Nox!

Another kind of mercenary paid by the Winter Eternal Kabal are the scourges. These winged killers come with a certain number of specialist and heavy weapons and bring flexibility on the battlefield. The only issue is to be sure to pay them on time and that no other Kabal paid them more before. It can be an issue if they decide to betray you in the middle of a raid.

A few scourges are currently in the payroll of the Kabal. They are mostly using shredder and like to see their foes turning in a red mist after shooting at them with their weapon.

I only build one squad of scourge and I like these models even if they are not the most efficient on a battlefield. They bring some nice deep strike and can strike hard if you do not mess up with the dices.
Like the other units, they are paint in white/grey with red or white wings. I am not happy with the white wings and I think I will modify them in the coming days to change for brown wings like an eagle.

I may had a couple of other marker for them if I decide to obtain another squad of these people.

Drukhari : Razorwing Jetfighter squadron on the move

Ave dominus Nox!

The Winter Eternal Kabal decided long ago to use the service of many aircraft for their raid in real space. As such, squadron of razorwing jetfighters and void bomber are always ready to take off from the kabal ship. As they cannot directly bring slave, they prefer to inflict suffering and destruction upon the poor target of the Kabal.

Their pilots are member of the Dark Blood cult and therefor are specialist of tank and monster hunt.

Two razorwing jetfighters are part of the current Kabal airforce. They both use disintegrator cannon and missiles to rain death from above. As they are part of the Dark Blood Cult, they benefit from “test of skill” that give them a nice +1 to wound against tank and monster. Always appreciate with a strength 5 weapon.
I adapted a technique from this WHTV tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc9aMBc9Lxg
I just replace the Praxeti white by Ulthuan grey as the drukhari planes have less sharp angle than a rhino and the dry did not produce a good result. After a couple of game, I will add some specific marker in each plane depending on their effort on the battlefield.

Painting Challenge: First results - Drukhari Raiders

Ave Dominus Nox!

As the containment is now fully in application in France, Luxembourg and Germany, I will only know day by day the evolution for my work. So As previously state, I started my painting challenge and after a couple of days, I finished up to tabletop my raiders:
They will join the other forces of my Winter Eternal Kabal as fast moving transport for the numerous Kabalites, Dracons and Archon.
I used mostly the advice of WarhammerTV for white scar armor:
I did not use all these tips :  I did not use the dry. After a try on another model, I found the result disappointing for an eldar skimmer.

I think I will add more details to these models in the coming days but at the moment they are tabletop ready.

I will continue my challenge, with a basilisk and manticore for my Blood Pact regiment.

Painting Challenge - using the containment to reduce the stock.

Ave Dominus Nox!

As you are all aware, special containment decisions have been made all across Europe to limit the dissemination of the new COV-19. It is our responsibility to stay at home, work from home and limit our travel.

As a result, I, and I pretty sure you too, will have lot of time to paint all these nice minis that we have. You know, the one that we bought and then let in some boxes because of all the other projects that we have.
It means that this containment is the perfect opportunity to work on them! And as it will last for at least a couple of weeks more realistically a month, it will be my painting challenge.

At the moment, I am working on some Drukhari raiders and I hop to finish them today or tomorrow. After that, I have the below list to do:

Drukhari:
- a 6-man squad of Reavers
- 16 Kabalites
- 2 Talos
- 1 Venom

Blood Pact:
- 1 Basilisk
- 1 Manticore
- 2 Scout sentinel
- 10 guards (but I think I am missing some bitz for them)

Orks:
- 30 Stromboyz

Night Lords:
- 1 Raptor Gunship
- 1 Leviathan full closed combat
- 10 Breachers
- 10 man-squad with meltagun
- 10 Night Lord Raptors
- One Praetor with Jump-pack

And I also have some terrain to finish for my table, a gang of Esher and a team of Skaven for Blood Bowl.

What do you think I should working on? I think I will do some of the tanks for my Blood Pact army.

Drukhari - first battle report against Chaos!

Ave Dominus Nox!

First battle report with the new Druhkhari a couple of days ago against a Thousand Sons / Alpha Legion army, we played the scenario 4 of the new ITC rulepack.

My current army:

Battalion Black Heart: 2*Archon, 5 Kabalites, 9 kabalites, 10 Kabalites, 2*Ravager, 2*Raider, 1 Void Bomber
Outride detachment: 1 Succubus, 2*6 reavers, 1*5 Scourges, 2*Razorwing Jetfighter
My opponent army:

Battalion Alpha Legion: Lord with power fist, sorcerer, 3*10 cultists, 2*3 Obliterators 2*Scorpius relics whirlwind
Battalion Thousand Sons: Ahriman on disc, sorcerer, 10 cultists, 2*5 Rubrics

I gain initiative and my opponent select vanguard strike for deployment.

First turn:
Drukhari: I started playing by sending my flyer in position to fire against the Scorpius and Obliterators. As my opponent use a stratagem, I cannot shoot the obliterators and focus on damaging a Scorpius and killing one squad of cultists.

Chaos: He almost did not move, but he managed to destroy one flyer and cause some damage to the others.
Second turn:

Drukhari: I did a better turn by killing one Scorpius, one obliterator squad and removing from game 2 cultists squad. One reavers squad manage to do that by engaging in close combat with the cultists.

Chaos: Not a lot of move again, but during shooting phase, the second obliterator squad that arrive destroy my ravager and my flyers take lot of damage. The reaver squad in close combat died by the hand of the chaos lord.

Third turn:

Drukhari: without the ravager and as the plane are damage, I did not do a lot of thing, I kill a rubric squad and focus with the reavers to damage the remaining Scorpius as well as engaging him in close combat to lock him and prevent him from shooting.

Chaos: During the psychic phase, my Void Bomber and reavers died. My raiders follow them after the obliterator shoot at them.

End Game:

At this point, we do not have many units on the table anymore. I focus on scoring as much as I can as well as killing some units outside the enemy deployment area (one rubric squad, diminishing the number of obliterators…). My opponent move to take some objectives markers in order to score.
In the end: 22 victory points for me 29 for my opponent, victory for the Chaos!

Analysis:

I clearly made a mistake during first turn by forgetting to “Vect” his stratagem to protect the Obliterators. I miss an opportunity to destroy them and it costs me one razorwing as an immediate punishment.
Also, I should have send all the reavers in second turn to destroy the cultist/engineer squad. It gave 3 victory points to my opponent.

Conclusion, I need to play more with this army in order to remember all the rules.

Drukhari - New 2020 project!

Ave Dominus Nox!

New project since the beginning of 2020: a new army! After some thoughts, I decided to start a Drukhari army. I want an army able to strike hard thanks to the speed and firepower of their units.

I used the army boxes sold during Christmas to start this project. It provided me a good basis: 40 kabalites, 2 Archons, 2 flyers, some reavers…
I will call this army the Winter Eternal Kabal and I will paint them using a winter thematic white, snow, cold blue.

The first part of the army must be ready for end of March with a team-tournament objective. I will publish the first version of my list in the coming days just after the deadline to send it to the tournament referees.

Before that, I can show you some of the first pieces and the way I painted them following the advice of the best painter of my club as well as my personal research on the internet.
I know it is not the best work ever, but I am not a pro painter, I want to find efficient way to paint this army at tabletop quality. And according to this criteria, the result is decent.
